The scenario has happened many times before. Some Christian or Jehovah's Witness decides that prayer is the way that his child should be healed, so he forsakes medical treatment and the child dies. It made me upset when I was an atheist and still does now that I am a Christian. A recent news story told about "extremely religious" parents who allowed their 11 year old daughter to die of a treatable form of diabetes by seeking healing through prayer instead of seeking medical treatment.
In this day, should Christians always seek medical treatment or just pray or do both? Do miracles happen today? Some Christians say "no," although I was personally healed of an "incurable" disease in My case was no exception, since I was an agnostic deist at the time I was healed.
This is not to say that healing miracles don't happen for Christians. However, miracles are rare and are done with the purpose of displaying God's power.
So, even though I consider myself a spiritual Christian, I would never assume that I had the power to heal anybody through prayer. God miraculously fed His chosen people manna during their year wandering through the desert.
There are some Christians who believe that Christians should not visit doctors, but rely solely upon prayer for healing. They claim falsely that all healings in the Bible were strictly the result of prayer.
It is true that the gospels contain many examples of Jesus and even the apostles healing the sick and lame. In fact, one of the writers of the gospels, Luke, was a physician.
Jesus also quoted from the proverb, "Physician, heal yourself! The Greek word for "physician" is derived from the root verb iaomaiwhich mean "to cure" or "heal," 10 indicating that a physician's job in the first century was to heal people. Some Christians go to the complete opposite extreme, claiming that the healing gifts died with the apostles.
It is likely that neither extreme position is correct, since it seems likely that God does heal some people to demonstrate His love and power. However, in addition to His miraculous healing power, God has called some people to be doctors to minister healing to others. I believe that God calls people into different vocations so that their strengths can be used to care for others 11 and bring glory to Him.
I was truly confused and lost. My high school counselor was frantic because I was losing opportunities for scholarships. In February of my senior year, my pastor preached a sermon in which he said that God can call people into jobs and professions that were not necessarily related to the church.
This idea that God had a "purpose" for my life was novel in But, it impressed me and I knelt and prayed that God would reveal to me the purpose and future for my life. I totally surrendered to whatever God wanted me to do. I can only describe the following event as truly supernatural and miraculous.
I had the incredible certainty that I was supposed to be a doctor. This was never on my list of professions and not only was I certain this is what God wanted me to do, I had incredible peace from my decision. In the months that followed, God worked in ways I could never attribute to man to get me into a special "six year" program that guaranteed me entrance into medical school only 10 people in the nation were accepted each year and to supply a way to pay for my entire education through the end of medical school.
I can now tell patients that God called me to be a physician and gave me the tools to complete my education.Reflect on the ancient observance of Passover, and learn a new Hebrew word each day.
A disease is a definite entity of sickness of part or all of the body, with a characteristic group of symptoms.
For a brief description of the development of medical care to cope with diseases in Biblical times, see Physician. It is likely that the Hebrews were subject to the same diseases that are prevalent in the semitropical climate of the mid-East today. However, in many cases the Bible only mentions symptoms, such as fever, hemorrhage, discharge or itch, and one can only surmise what the disease entity was. Perhaps in this discussion of the diseases of the Bible and their symptoms, it will be most helpful if they are listed in alphabetical order and then briefly described.
Wine was a very common drink in Biblical days, much as coffee is now. This was good in a country like Israel. Dysentery of several kinds was endemic and drinking water easily contaminated. Wine was a safe drink because of its alcoholic content. The Bible speaks favorably of wine in several places. Some scholars seek to show that the wine was really only grape juice.
This is improbable, since grape juice would quickly spoil with temperature and living conditions as they were in Biblical days. Wine was definitely wine as we know it today, and it was a good thing for the people of that day.
However, it is also true that some Hebrews used wine to excess and got themselves and others in trouble. The Bible repeatedly speaks favorably of wine, but warns frequently and emphatically against its excessive use.
There seems to be a strange chemistry in the bodies of certain people that produces a strong craving for alcohol. They start drinking it in normal manner with their food, or socially, but are unable to control themselves and go on to excess.
Beer and whiskey were prob. A true wino is a sad looking specimen of humanity, and is on his way to committing suicide through destruction of his brain, liver and other organs. In modern times alcoholism is looked upon as a disease, and is treated as such. In Biblical days it was considered a moral problem. Chronic alcoholism is an amazingly stubborn ailment.
Persons who seem to have recovered from it show relapses after months or years in seventy-five percent of such cases. Christian faith is of enormous help. Several chronic alcoholics have been instantaneously cured of alcoholism by simply accepting Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Undoubtedly there were cases like that in the old days when alcoholics returned to sincere Jehovah worship.
This is a condition in which the muscles refuse to absorb the food brought to them by the blood. Food intake may be adequate, with digestion and absorption from the gastro-intestinal tract normal, but when the food gets to the muscles it is not adequately absorbed by them. As a result the muscles grow increasingly thinner and weaker.
As an example we may think of a child with muscular dystrophy being picked up by a parent. The brain is not involved, but the body in an advanced case would be much as Job described himself.
Another reference to atrophy is found in Luke Jesus healed a right hand that was withered. This time the atrophy could have been due to injured nerves paralyzing the hand and allowing it to wither. Another likely cause is polio meningitis. Polio is caused by a virus—an organism so small that it is not even visible with an ordinary high power microscope.
The tiny virus is found primarily in the mouth and pharynx, and in the lower bowel. Food contaminated by fecal material may contain the polio virus, and this is the principal method by which it is spread. The germ is picked up by the small bowel and travels to the central nervous system. We have warned time and again of worldwide plagues and disease epidemics which will come upon mankind in these last days. Christ says in Matthew that famines will be followed by pestilences [see also Luke ]… Historically, the Black Death alone killed upwards of one-third of the people living in Europe in the 14th century.
The Spanish flu pandemic lasted from March,to June, spreading even to the Arctic and remote Pacific islands… estimates put the number of those who were killed at 40 to 50 million people….
Contagious diseases may also be communicated by animals that are not even sick, but which are called unclean in the Bible. These animals were not created for human consumption, but it is interesting that many diseases and epidemics originated with the human consumption of such unclean animals, including monkeys, pigs, camels, civet cats, bats and snakes.
A deadly coronavirus has now spread from China to many countries around the world. These will become more and more visible and frightening in the years to come. In the book of Revelation, God describes in detail how end-time plagues causing sickness and disease will be poured out on mankind. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In RevelationGod warns His people not to be a part of the Babylonian system so that they would not become a victim of the plagues including terrible diseases and pandemics which God will pour out on it:.
In addition, God warned especially the ancient Israelites and their modern descendants that He would inflict them with serious and incurable plagues, diseases, epidemics and pandemics if they were to forsake Him. The LORD will strike you with consumption, with fever, with inflammation, with severe burning fever, with the sword, with scorching, and with mildew; they shall pursue you until you perish…. The LORD will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of heart… The LORD will strike you in the knees and on the legs with severe boils which cannot be healed, and from the sole of your foot to the top of your head….
Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the LORD bring upon you until you are destroyed.Sickness - Bible Promises Spoken
You can find additional sober warnings of epidemics and pandemics for the disobedient and rebellious end-time Houses of Israel and Judah in passages such as Jeremiah ; ; ; ; as well as in Ezekiel17; ; ; ; As we have seen, terrible diseases and pandemics will afflict all of mankind—not just the modern descendants of the ancient House of Israel.
This entire world lives in total rebellion to God and His Laws. It is described as an evil world which is ruled by Satan the Devil. And since God is not a respecter of persons ActsHis end-time warnings of epidemics and pandemics include all nations and peoples.
And so, God warns the modern descendants of the ancient Houses of Israel and Judah of terrible pandemics which will afflict them. True Christians are spiritual Jews and Israelites. But these terrible pandemics do not have to affect them, because God is promising protection to His people who stay faithful and loyal to Him.
This does not mean, of course, that true Christians could never become sick. The wonderful news is that in a few years from now, we will not hear anything anymore about the spread of diseases, sicknesses, epidemics and pandemics. Man will never again play God by creating deadly viruses in laboratories, and they will never again defy God by eating the meat of unclean animals which were never created for human consumption, but which are harmful to human health, causing all kinds of diseases.
What a wonderful time that will be when horrible news of sicknesses and diseases will have become a thing of the past. You can find out more about which cookies we are using or switch them off in settings.

They will not allow Him to do anything out of the boundaries that they have drawn up for Him to obey. God is a God of Judgement, and He is known by the judgements that He makes.
He is more than just a "God of Love". Where do we develop our opinion of God and how He acts from? It is either from studying the Bible, or it is left up to our personal opinion, thereby we become the god of God, and He is under our control rather than vice versa. Pestilence is defined: "Disease that spreads rapidly, causing many deaths" according to the dictionary. There are between million cases in the world of venereal syphilis.
How did Jesus know? He knows everything! He is God! JohnI TimothyActsJohnMoreover, he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. The Bible is filled with wonderful promises to those who live right, and dreadful promises to those who reject and neglect God's Word.
Definitely promised is disease sent from God as a promised judgement. God promised to judge sexual sin. All sex outside of the husband-wife marriage relationship is sin.
In 2 Chronicles 21 there is the story of a man names Jehoram who "caused the habitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication and compelled Judah" also. Verse 11 The prophet Elijah was commissioned by God to write a letter to Jehoram.
It said: "Behold, with a great plague will the Lord smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods: And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
II Chron, ,19, "And after all this, the Lord smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease. And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases.Martin, Ph.
Read the accompanying Newsletter for November Lately major reports have appeared about new strains of microbes, whether bacteria or viruses. Many of these are microbes that are immune to the various antibiotics that have been such help in stemming the spread of diseases in recent times.
Miracle drugs of the past such as penicillin are beginning to have no affect on these new and powerful mutants.
Scientists are concerned and worried. In other words, new and powerful bacteria and viruses are emerging on the scene that will not be controlled by vaccines or drugs presently on the market.
The specter of widespread disease epidemics is now a reality. What does the Bible have to say about disease epidemics as we approach the end of the age? The place that we ought to start should be Matthew chapter 24 where Jesus gives His last instructions to His apostles a few days before He was crucified.
King James Bible
Matthew chapter 24 gives a thumbnail sketch of events in the last generation before the second coming of Christ. Jesus states in these few verses that a number of events are to occur in areas of the world, particularly in Palestine and at Jerusalem, which will affect the whole world. We need to look at some of these events, as Jesus and the apostles looked westward toward the city of Jerusalem from the summit of the Mount of Olives.
This thumbnail sketch by Jesus is the central prophecy that we should refer to if we are to understand the events to occur just prior to the Second Advent of Christ. Indeed, there are other sections of Scripture that describe these prophetic accounts. The Book of Revelation is one and another is the Book of Daniel.
There are whole prophecies in the Old Testament as well as certain sections of the New Testament which give other information that we can put that on to the skeleton, so to speak, of the events mentioned in this Olivet Prophecy.
Let us look at what Christ Himself said would develop at the end of the age just before His return. They were looking westward at the city of Jerusalem and the Temple. They were seeing a beautiful panoramic view of that splendid Temple and the majestic city of Jerusalem as it existed in the time of Jesus.
Verily I say unto you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down. But they wanted to know when these things will occur. They were looking for the end of the age and the emergence of the Kingdom of God on this earth, which would be a new and beautiful age which they came to recognize to be a millennial age.
That age is a time when Jesus himself would be here on earth ruling for years. Obviously it would be a time of peace and joy and happiness and prosperity. They wanted to know about the time periods of these things that Jesus was talking about, when they would occur. They were also interested to know about certain signs that would introduce His coming to this earth and for the end of the age. Jesus gave them some specific teachings so they might be knowledgeable about these important events.
These teachings are also for you and me today because many of these things that Jesus is talking about pertain particularly to the end of the age and not to that period back there? It is rather remarkable that some of things that He does mention did take place some 40 years later in a superficial sense, but not in a complete and fully developed sense. They wanted to know about the when, the where, the why, and the how of the end time. They found out afterward that these things would occur at a later time.
So He answered and said unto them — and He is also saying unto you and me. For many shall come in my namesaying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
They will admit that Jesus is the Christ. And today in our western civilization, Christianity is the central religion in which the vast majority of people claim that Jesus is the Christ. What does the Bible say about? You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Bless the LordO my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.
So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.
King James Bible
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
And who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet, and his disease became severe. Yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lordbut sought help from physicians.
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health. Then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache.
And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
So that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. Heal me, O Lordand I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you. Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.
And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. Is anyone among you sick?
